Kohei Uchimura’s Comment & Interview (Dec 13)
“At this competition, I did not aimed to the victory specially.
But, I aimed to do performance that satisfies me.
So, I am happy now because I was able to do that performance.
My landings of twists have been stable since I was in Japan.
(These made me good.*) So today, I was able to do the performance as I practiced, I think.
My participation was decided 4 days before I left Japan.
Actually, I had practiced the new rule version recently.
However, as the participation was decided, I had to return the version suddenly.
And, I practiced the serial rehearsal only 1 time.
Then, I came to here, Spain.
Therefore, I’m glad about my today’s result.
I suppose that the one of the biggest reason was the confidence since Beijing Olympics.”
Q. “You didn’t get medal at Floor Exercise at Beijing Olympics.
So, this time, did you have the feeling that to get the medal at FE absolutely?”
A. “I didn’t have that feeling and didn’t care. Already, at Beijing, I got the AA silver medal.
And as I expected, the getting AA medal was happier than the each events.”

its amazing how he can prepare himself in such short time, and won a medal with so many tough opponents competing. so we have always known that kohei has an incredible potential at this young age. it will be the “kohei uchimura’s domination” in a few years to come, i think. since i saw him for the first time in olympics to now. just getting to know him better with every competition/ interviews. its still a long, long journey for him.

I’m glad that this journey just begins! At least we’ll have time to enjoy every moment of glory. I hope I’ll have the chance to see him perform! He’s really impressive! He’ll definitely be the star of the next Olympics! I don’t see anyone so bright and talented as he is!
He’s great at floor and vault but since he wants to be an all-arounder, I wish him to be as good to the rest apparatuses too!
I’m looking forward to read more of his interviews too, since it’s always great to know his way of thinking, his believes! It makes me admire him more!

yes ana. i’ve always felt… regret, for not knowing tomita-san earlier when he was at the peak of his career. like the melbourne 2005 and athens 2004. if only i had known him earlier…

I have the same feeling, but there is nothing we can do right now! I’m very glad that even if it’s for a short time, I had the chance to know Tomita-san! What if I wouldn’t have watched the Olympics?! I might not even know that such a wonderful, bright, special person exists! That makes me really happy!

Well…I don’ think he has been to America for any gymnastics competitions…with his toned arms flexing where I could see them.
Has he ever been to the US?

I’ve always wondered, who will Tomita-san couch…
I mean will he start with kids, or already grown athletes.
Tomita-san might prefer kids, because he probably wants to teach them from the beginning the philosophy of beautiful gymnastics….
I don’t know…

IDK…it might make him a better dad one day if he works with kids…I think he would be a pretty good dad. But I don’t know I’ve never met him of course…but teaching them from the beginning about beautiful gymnastics would be best. Then work with difficulty.
Tomita-san knows whats best for who he wants to teach anyway…I’m sure Kohei would want to learn something from Tomita-san anyway.

More “useless” information following from Francine’s question about whether Tomita’s been to USA . Tomita was part of the Japanese team which went to Anaheim, California, for the Gymnastics World Championships in 2003. He won bronze in the all-around competition (the Japanese team also won bronze). =)
I’m sure Tomita will be a great coach – he seems so great with kids. I hope he will coach so that we can still have a chance to catch him on television!
