081111 CX special story! Tomita-san appears live in this video
Good morning.
The next subject is about gymnastics.
Ace, Hiroyuki Tomita, who won the medals in Athens
and Beijing Olympic indicate that he wants to retire.
Why does he decide to retire?
Lets find out the truth now.
*this is the part where they show Tomita’s high bar
routine during the Athens Olympics.*
The following year he won the World Championship Individual
All-Around gold medal after a long 31 years for Japan.
Up till now in 20 years, Tomita has been
playing as a representative of Japan for 8 years.
His speech during the press conference:
“In recent years, I feel the increase of physical
injuries and the decline in my strength every year.”
The pommel horse expert, Takehiro Kashima, who has
vowed to retire last month also attended
yesterday’s meeting of the retreat meeting.
Since young, they had always accompanied
each other to persist in gymnastics.
They has become the driving force behind
the revival of Japan gymnastics.
Kashima says:
“I made mistakes even at pommel horse, which is my expert.”
“I cannot have a good mind and body balance.”
“This is the biggest reason why I decided to retire.”
Naoya Tsukahara, who shared the joy of the Athens Olympic,
above 30 years old yet still active in gymnastics,
commented on Tomita’s retirement:
“Tomita’s talent is far above mine.”
“I thought that he will easily continue to adhere
in gymnastics for a longer period of time.”
“Because I’m that kind of people who will
continue to adhere no matter what.”
“So I thought he should be able to continue.”
“I did feel that he retired a little bit too early.”
Tomita is an All-Rounder who is expert in all 6 apparatus.
His credo is “Gymnastic is not gymnastic if it’s not beautiful,
if one only pursuit the fanciness in it
then it will be just like a circus.”
“But because of the need to complete the
pursuit of beauty as an ideal gymnastics
has become more and more difficult for me…”
What do you mean by an ideal beauty in gymnastics?
“To perform difficult elements as seemingly easy”
“Performances that impress the audiences’
heart deeply is also what I pursuit most.”
Only oneself can feel a sense of lack of
body co-ordination in themselves.
Naoya Tsukahara also stated another
reason about Tomita’s retirement:
“I had always won the National Championship.”
“But then when Tomita appeared,
I had a feeling like he had surpassed me.”
Tsukahara was the champion of the National
Championship since 1996, and had won 5 consecutive times.
Tomita was the one who stopped him
from getting the 6th consecutive winning.
Since then, Tomita was the winner of the
National Championship for 6 consecutive times.
But just then, a new competitor appeared.
Kohei Uchimura, who is 8 years younger than Tomita.
He won the individual all-around
silver medal in Beijing Olympics.
But on the other side, Tomita…
The unexpected fall from SR caused him a medal.
Tsukahara commented on the difference
between Tomita and Kohei:
“They had very large difference on their
physical ability, the speed to pick up new moves etc..”
“If compared, Kohei will be better than Tomita.”
“How should I say..”
“It can be said that he is
now nervous breakdown already.”
Kohei commented about Tomita after the 62nd National Championship:
“I may not be able to achieve as Tomita.”
“But he is my goal.”
“I would like to try my best to practice to be closer to him.”

Tomita is and an awesome gymnast The sport will truly miss his amazing ability and capacity to win. I am from the US and have followed Japan’s National team. They in my book are one of the gold standards for as Tomita would say performing “beautiful” gymnastics
